What Nobody Tells You About Starting a New Career Path
Starting a new career path always looks exciting at the beginning.
There’s this sense of hope.
A feeling that things are about to change.
A belief that you’re stepping into something better.
And in many ways, that’s true.
But what people don’t really talk about is what happens after you start.
Because after the excitement fades, reality sets in.
And that reality can feel… uncomfortable.
You start to notice the gaps in your knowledge.
You begin to realize how much you don’t know.
You question if you’re doing things the right way.
Sometimes, you even question yourself.
Right now, as I’m a growing virtual assistant, I’ve experienced all of these feelings.
There are days I feel confident, like I understand what I’m doing and I’m making progress.
And then there are other days where everything feels unclear again.
Days where I feel like I’m starting all over.
And I used to think something was wrong with me because of that.
I thought maybe I wasn’t learning fast enough.
Or maybe I wasn’t cut out for this.
But I’m starting to realize that this phase is actually normal.
It’s just not talked about enough.
Everyone celebrates the beginning.
And everyone celebrates the results.
But the middle?
The middle is quiet.
The middle is where you’re trying, learning, adjusting, and figuring things out without immediate validation.
It’s where growth actually happens, but it doesn’t always feel like growth.
It feels like confusion.
It feels like doubt.
It feels like uncertainty.
And that can be discouraging if you don’t understand that it’s part of the process.
I’m slowly learning to be more patient with myself in this phase.
To accept that I won’t always feel confident.
To understand that growth doesn’t always feel good while it’s happening.
And most importantly, to remind myself that just because something feels uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
Sometimes, it just means you’re learning.
So if you’re currently starting something new, a career, a skill, a different path in life, and it feels harder than you expected…
You’re not alone.
And you’re not doing it wrong.
You’re just in the part that nobody really talks about.
The part where you’re becoming.
