Stop Waiting to Feel Ready Before Starting Your Career
I think one of the biggest things holding people back from starting anything is this idea of “feeling ready.”
Waiting until you’re more confident.
Waiting until you’ve learned enough.
Waiting until everything makes sense.
And I get it, because I used to think like that too.
I thought I needed to feel fully prepared before I could actually start pursuing something like virtual assistance.
Like I needed to understand everything first.
Have all the skills.
Be completely sure of myself.
But the truth is… that moment doesn’t really come.
You don’t suddenly wake up one day and feel 100% ready.
If anything, you just become more aware of how much you don’t know.
And that can actually make you feel less ready, not more.
So if you keep waiting for that perfect feeling, you might end up waiting for a very long time.
What I’m starting to realize is that readiness is not something you feel first.
It’s something you build.
You build it by starting before you feel confident.
By trying things out, even when you’re unsure.
By learning in real time, not just in theory.
Because there are some things you simply cannot learn until you begin.
You can watch videos, read posts, take courses…
But until you actually do something, it doesn’t fully connect.
And I think that’s where a lot of people get stuck.
They stay in the learning phase for too long.
Not because they’re lazy, but because it feels safer.
It feels better to prepare than to risk making mistakes.
But the truth is, mistakes are part of the process.
Feeling unsure is part of the process.
Even feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing sometimes… is part of the process.
I’m still dealing with this myself.
There are still things I hesitate to do because I feel like I’m not ready yet.
But I’m learning that if I keep waiting, I’m only delaying my own growth.
So instead of asking, “Am I ready?”
I’m trying to ask, “Am I willing to start?”
Because those two questions lead to very different outcomes.
You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You don’t need to feel completely confident.
You just need to be willing to take the first step… and then keep going from there.
That’s how readiness is built.
Not before you start.
But because you started.
